BIG-GAME RECAP: Week 12

FONTANA – What impressed us most about the Los Osos-Kaiser varsity football game on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, was the Grizzlies refusal to quit when down 21 points in the third quarter.

The Grizzlies could not keep pace with Kaiser’s running game but Mason Overacker did not care, rushing for three touchdowns and passing for three more to lead his team back and give them a lead in the final minute. If not for some crazy scenes on the Cats’ final drive, it would have been enough to win.

Randy Berumen: “That’s been us all year. We keep going. The last several weeks we’ve really come together as a team, and our kids don’t have any quit in them. They’re tough kids. They work their tails off and they play for each other and that’s one of our pillars – brotherhood. Mason is an absolute stud for us. He’s shown a lot of growth over the last two seasons and just an absolute warrior, absolute dude. Hoping we can find a home for him at the next level, and I think he’s going to make some coach really happy because he’s a winner.”

Billy Cardosi: “Our kids can never relax (but) they get complacent. This football team is very good but they’re the most lackadaisical football team I think I’ve ever been around. They’re like, ‘Yeah, we got this,’ but they don’t understand the finality of the playoffs. Those guys from Los Osos were never going to quit. They don’t understand what high school football means to everyone. It means just as much to them as it does to us. That’s a good football team over there. Their coaches did a great job.”
