CLOSER LOOK: Valley View’s Bobby Greer

Take a closer look at Valley View junior Bobby Greer and you’ll see a player ascending.
Displaying his elusiveness and speed, Greer totaled his fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing game as the Eagles (5-1 overall, 1-0 Sunbelt) started slowly before pulling away to beat J.W. North on Friday, Oct. 2.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound running back had 21 carries for 168 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Greer surpassed 1,000 in the win and is averaging 10-plus yards per carry.
Valley View, last season’s CIF-Southern Section Division 11 champions, and are off to their best start under Eric Martinez.
We caught up with Greer after Valley View’s 37-28 win over J.W. North.
InlandFieldhouse.com: What’s the importance of starting off league play with a win?
Bobby Greer: “Tonight was very important. It’s going to set us up for where we’re going to become in the playoffs.”
IF: The Eagles have won three in a row right now so what’s going right?
BG: “What’s going right is our offense. That’s going right. We’re scoring, we’re hitting, we’re getting first downs (and) we’re doing everything.”
IF: Down 14-0 in the first quarter, what did it take to get rolling on offense?
BG: “Once I put it in the end zone everybody got hyped and we just kept scoring.”
IF: What’s another 100-yard performance mean for you?
BG: “It means a lot to me. Coming into this season, I’m just trying to play offense and go to college.”
IF: How do you think you guys can keep this momentum going?
BG: “We have to keep working and keep going, and every time we come back after a game, we watch the film and we get better from our mistakes.”
