WEEK 7 RECAP: Rubidoux Runs Away From La Sierra

RUBIDOUX – What impressed us most about the La Sierra-Rubidoux varsity football game on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, was the contrast in styles.

On one side there was Rubidoux; disciplined, run-oriented and tough as nails on defense. On the other was La Sierra; an unpredictably explosive quarterback, a few talented skill guys and a defense not quite ready for the big time. Rubidoux got out to a big early lead and had to score a few more times but that seemed pretty easy for the Falcons’ Joshua Green and Sean Malang. Meanwhile, La Sierra is leaning into the Steven Moore experience. The sophomore QB is a talented and elusive ball carrier and is quickly developing his decision-making in the passing game, but the Eagles have issues in pass protection, which makes for a feather-raising experience.

Shawn Moore: “I think we started off slow like we’ve done all year. And normally we start off (slowly) and then we’ll come back. This time, we started off against a good Rubidoux team, and we fought back, but, you know, we had some issues, and that’s what happens. It’s a little frustrating at the end of the day because we’re a much better football team. I think we kind of got out of our element a little bit. We can put the ball down the field but I think we tried to go to the run too much. (Childs) was toting the rock pretty well, and when we went to that we kind of got away from our real offense So ultimately, it’s a situation where, you know, we’ll regroup. We’ll get ready for next week against San Bernardino. We win that game (and) we get to automatic bid to the playoffs and go from there. Obviously, Rubidoux gets a chance to be in first place but they still have to come back and play us at home, so the league championship is in three weeks.”

Patrick Thompson: “We, from Monday on, we were talking about, like, we want lightning to strike right out of the gates because we knew that (La Sierra) always, they always come back in a lot of their games. So, we wanted to hit and we wanted to hit fast. So that was kind of a game plan. We wanted to really punch them in the mouth and really get up on them. And they did a good job, you know, they did a job, and you knew that (La Sierra) were in it. They have athletes and they were going to come back. We’ve got to play better defense. We gave up way too many easy, simple runs by (Childs) and I know he’s good but if we could have kind of mollify that, I think it would have been better, and we would have made a lot more one-dimensional. That was honestly kind of a game plan, so I didn’t like how they were able to run here. We knew that (Ezra) Gatica was going to catch the ball, and we knew that (Moore) was going to run around and that he was going be able to throw the rock but we wanted to make this about (Moore), we didn’t want to make us about (Childs), and there were oftentimes where he was very, very effective against your defense.”
