1. Jacob Nottingham, Redlands — This 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior had 47 RBI last season, tops among all CIF-Southern Section catchers. His 2011 numbers (.442 BA, .531 OBP and .779 SLG) overshadow his slow start in ’12. He’s currently batting .125 with two RBI.

2. Christian Fillingame, Hesperia Oak Hills — This 5-foot-9, 165-pound senior made the most of his chance to play for last season’s CIF-Southern Section Division 5 champions, batting. 404 with seven HRs and 32 RBI in 28 games as a junior. He’ll be expected to be a leader in 2012. He’s currently batting. .345 with six RBI.

3. Angel Mariscal, Rialto — The Knights have long produced quality infield talent, and Mariscal (5-foot-8, 155 pounds) is another slick-fielding vacuum. And he can knock it around the park, too. Mariscal, a senior, hit .468 with 28 RBI in 25 games last season.

4. Zakk Planz, Big Bear — It’s not just his name that stands out, but also his numbers. Planz (5-foot-11, 176 pounds) hit .515 with 28 RBI and 28 runs in 21 games last season. To wit: Of his team-leading 34 hits in 66 at-bats, four were doubles, four were triples and three were home runs. He’s currently hitting .571 with two 2Bs and four RBI.

AND MORE. Andrew Saucedo, Riverside North — Whether by ability or circumstance, Saucedo (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) commands the pitching staff of the reigning CIF-Southern Section Division 1 champion. Some of his 2011 numbers (.400 OBP, 19 RBI in 34 Gs) even suggest some offensive potency, and his team’s 2012 record (6-0) indicates his effectiveness behind the plate.
