Prep Preview: SoCal Soccer Showcase

I’m covering the inaugural Southern California Soccer Showcase at Colton HS today for The Press-Enterprise. The best part of this assignment is, theoretically, watching the Inland Area’s best from the class of ’93.

THE LOW DOWN:
The event, presented by Soccer Center, is supposed to bring together uncommitted players and prospective NCAA coaches for a one-off scouting event. Players on the Boys ’93 team are appearing by invitation only, and will face a contingent from Orange County. The game’s MVP will apparently receive a scholarship on the spot, according to the game’s promotional, but who or how that player is chosen remains unknown.

THE ROSTER:
GK Angel Ramirez, Fontana
GK Tony Huerta, Riverside Poly
GK Armando Quezada, Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos
Jonathan Madrid, Fontana
Nick Mercado, Redlands East Valley
Erik Fierros, San Bernardino San Gorgonio
Eddie Garcia, Riverside Poly
Yordy Garcia, Riverside Poly
George Goodwin, Riverside Poly
Henry Baltazar, Riverside La Sierra
Fabian Vazquez, MoVal Valley View
Daniel Roman, MoVal Valley View
Justyn Peeples, Riverside King
Irvin Dominguez, San Bernardino Arroyo Valley
Bryce Robison, Corona
Devin Leon, Phelan Serrano
Ceasar Barajas, Colton
Edgar Figueroa, Colton
Dominic Escalera, Riverside La Sierra
Josh Sonico, Cathedral City
Francisco Milian, MoVal Valley View
Oscar Barrientos, San Bernardino Cajon
Isreal Garcia, Perris Citrus Hill
Jhovani Morales, Fontana
Roberto Ochoa, San Bernardino San Gorgonio

THE DIFFERENCE:
As stout as the Inland Empire teams appears, who’s coaching also is unknown, as is the quality of their competition. It’s difficult to say anything substantial about a team that’s had maybe one practice, but we’ll go with the home side.
PREDICTION: Inland Empire 4, Orange County 3
