FOUR & MORE: Best Inland Area NCAA’ers


MARCH MADNESS 2012

1. Michael Snaer, Florida State — The MoVal Rancho Verde HS product was selected ACC Tournament MVP after leading the Seminoles (24-9) to the tourney title and a No. 3 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament. A 6-foot-5, 202-pound junior guard, Snaer had game-winning shots against Duke and Virginia Tech, and averaged 18 points per game during the ACC Tournament.

2. Jamaal Franklin, San Diego State — The Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, this 6-foot-5 sophomore guard/forward out of Phelan Serrano HS averaged 17.1 points and eight rebounds per game for the Aztecs (26-7), the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament. To wit: Franklin had 10 double-doubles this season playing mostly as an under-sized small forward.

3. Carlon Brown, Colorado — The first of two players who prepped at Riverside King HS, this 6-foot-5, 215-pound senior guard was MVP of the PAC-12 Tournament for the Buffaloes (23-11), the No. 11 seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 15.6 points and 5.8 rebounds during the Buffs run to the first-ever PAC-12 tourney title.

4. Kendall Williams, New Mexico — The 6-foot-3, 180-pound sophomore guard out of Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos HS averaged 12.1 points and 4.2 assists for the Lobos (27-6), the No. 5 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament.

AND MORE: Tony Snell, New Mexico — Playing alongside Williams (or even starting in front of him) is this 6-foot-7, 195-pound sophomore guard from Riverside King HS. Snell averaged 11 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 33 games for the Lobos (27-6), who play Long Beach in an NCAA Tournament Opening Round today.
