Take a closer look at Corona Centennial senior Chase Krivishei and you’ll see a player doing the most with the physical gifts he has been given.

Krivishei stands 5-foot-9 and weighs in at 165 pounds, but caught five passes for 56 clutch yards as the Huskies almost pulled out the win in last season’s Inland Division title game. He finished with 42 receptions for 652 yards and six TDs in 2012.

On Centennial first offensive play on Friday night, Sept. 7, Krivishei took an end around 67 yards for a touchdown to lead the Huskies’ ravaging of Long Beach Cabrillo.

So thoroughly was Centennial’s dismantling for Cabrillo that Krivishei, who caught five passes in a Week 1 loss to St. Bonaventure, didn’t touch the ball another time.

Needless to say, he has a pretty good team around him.

I caught up with Krivishei after the game, a 61-6 win that stopped a two-game winning streak.

How does it feel to win your first game in more than eight months?

“Of course it feels good. Throwing 61 up on the board is always awesome. St. Bonaventure’s a tough team, and I think if we’d play them again we’d have them. Fix our mistakes and we’ll be good for Alemany.”

What was the change between last week and this week?

“Just a few fixes, some special teams things that we messed up on, some defensive stuff — we’re up against some tough teams — other than that though…”

How close is this team to being a CIF contender?

“We’re that team. We’re going to win it this year.”
