CLOSER LOOK: Centennial RB Tre Watson

Take a closer look at Corona Centennial senior Tre Watson and you’ll see a player that has been brought up in a system uniquely suited to display his talent.

Watson’s talents — strength and speed — are utilized best when he’s able to get to the second level quickly. From there he has the muscle to break a tackle and the breakaway ability to make opposing defenses look silly.

Centennial’s massive offensive line and elite-level passing game allow him to do that on a regular basis.

We caught up with Watson following the Huskies’ 55-7 victory over Eastvale Roosevelt on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013.

Assess the team’s performance vs. Roosevelt.

“It was a blowout. We came out, played hard Huskies football. We got our ‘C’s back this week. It was a great day for us,” Watson said.

Is the team really in “state playoff mode”?

“We’re definitely clicking as a team. Everybody’s working together and everybody’s giving their all on every rep. That’s what it all comes down to, and I feel like once we do that we can’t be stopped as the scoreboard tells you today. It was a great job,” he said.

Is it a bummer to not get the shutout (vs. Roosevelt)?

“It happens. Of course it would’ve been nice but they only scored one so our defense held it down. I can’t say anything about that.”

Your Week 9 game is vs. Corona Santiago. What will you work on before next Friday?

“Just keep executing and getting better every week. Come out this week of practice and work hard everyday because we can’t sleep because this is like a state playoff (game), too. Even though (Santiago) had a good game against Roosevelt we still gotta come out and play.”

Watson (5-11, 195) was recently selected by the Blue Team for the West Coast Bowl, a showcase of high school seniors, set for Jan. 27, 2014.

“It was nice,” Watson said.

As are so may of his lengthy touchdown runs.
