Inland Area Prep Football Top 10

PREP FOOTBALL
Through Monday, Sept. 1, 2014

1. Corona Centennial (0-1) — Huskies’ offense struggled to get going vs. Mater Dei — not the first team to have that problem — but each QB threw a touchdown pass and now Coach Matt Logan has game tape to dissect to the nth degree.
THIS SEASON: 0-1 overall.
LAST SEASON: 12-3 overall, 5-0 Big VIII League. 2012: 14-2, 5-0.

WEEK ONE: vs. Orange Lutheran at Oceanside HS on Saturday, Sept. 6.

2. Vista Murrieta — Broncos’ talent level may be down overall but you can bet Coach Coley Candaele will get the most out of every inch and pound. That said, the Southwestern League hasn’t been this wide open in five years.
LAST SEASON: 12-2 overall, 5-0 Southwestern League. 2012: 13-1, 5-0.
LAST RANKED: No. 2.

3. Upland (1-0) — The ‘U’ got off to a ridiculous start to the 2014 season, scoring a super-massive victory over Palmdale Knight in its opener. Is it possible that Coach Tim Salter’s team is finally the best in the Inland area?

WEEK ONE: at Redondo Union on Friday, Sept. 5.

4. Menifee Heritage (1-0) — Patriots’ narrow Week 1 victory proves that the defense isn’t where it was last year, but the QB Brett Virgil and offense may be more explosive than ever.

6. Rancho Cucamonga (1-0) — Cougars’ passing attack made a big play, and the defense was stout in a Week 0 shutout. A victory in Week 1 would be even more impressive.
THIS SEASON: 1-0 overall.
LAST SEASON: 10-2 overall, 4-1 Baseline League. 2012: 10-3, 4-1.
LAST RANKED: No. 9.

WEEK ONE: vs. Murrieta Valley on Friday, Sept. 5.

8. Norco — Cougars begin a new era and have scheduled a doozy to ring in the new season, matching up against a perennial playoff opponent, Rancho Cucamonga, on the road.
