CLOSER LOOK: Summit’s Damian Alloway
Take a closer look at Fontana Summit senior Damian Alloway and you’ll see one the most sought-after football recruits in the Inland Area this season.
With the ball Alloway is as elusive as there is Southern California, and has the track-star speed to finish the play.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior is coveted by every PAC-12 school and has drawn plenty of interest nationally from Norte Dame and several Big XII schools, among others.
We caught up with Alloway after Summit’s 54-6 victory over Fontana Kaiser on Friday, Oct. 30 (Week 9). He caught three passes and scored three touchdowns in the win, his first over the program’s cross-town rival.
FOMB: Did you expect such a wide margin of victory?
Alloway: “Honestly, I did. We were so ready for this game. Every since last year, we knew we were so much better than we were last year. We just knew we had to make a statement with this game, and that’s what we came out here and did.”
FOMB: How big is this moment then?
DA: “This feels so good. This is what we’ve been working for all year. Ever since the beginning we’ve been talking about tis game, talking about how we’re going to play. I can’t even really explain it. I’m really lost for words. We feel we finally did it. We beat Kaiser. Now on to league champs, hopefully 10-0.”
FOMB: What about the controversial lateral play?
DA: “Here’s the thing, I knew if I caught it that I was going to score so I was excited. I lost my concentration. After that happened I knew I had to make a play, I knew I had to make up for that. That’s why when I caught that next bubble (screen) that’s exactly what I did.”
FOMB: What can you tell us about your recruiting process?
DA: “Right now the schools recruiting me the hardest are UCLA and Notre Dame, but Oregon is starting to get into the mix. They could be offering soon, so once that offer comes that should be my Top-3. I should be committing by December.”
