Prep Preview: Citrus Belt League

BOYS PREP SOCCER 2015-’16
CITRUS BELT LEAGUE PREVIEW

(Records in parenthesis)

The CBL is the deepest and right there with the best soccer leagues in San Bernardino County. They may not be quite as good at the top as some (Baseline, Mt. Baldy, Sierra) on the west end, but every team brings something to the table this season.

REV (20-3-2, 12-1-1) was a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 quarterfinalist last season, and coveted No. 10 Jonathan Garcia returns from a 13-goal, 14-assist junior campaign during which he emerged the Wildcats’ leader.

Rialto Carter (12-8-4, 9-3-2) had last season with back-to-back 2-1 losses to Redlands East Valley, then Ontario in a 1st Round playoff game. Optimism shines with a pair of young goal-scorers on the rise.

San Bernardino Cajon (12-9-3, 8-4-2) played its last game against Preseason No. 1 Ontario Chaffey, so we’ll throw it out the window. Senior No. 10 Homero Orozco had 15 assists in eight games last year.

Yucaipa (11-11-1, 6-7-1) played four one-goal games to finish its season tougher than a $2 steak after a 2-1 loss in a 2nd Round playoff game. Leading scorer Jakob Salinas (6 goals) returns.

Fontana Miller (9-11-3, 5-7-2) won four of its last five games but failed to qualify for the postseason after 1-6-2 start. Some midfield talent remains but Rebels are in transition.

Redlands (5-13-5, 3-7-4) is still waiting for young phenom Davis Moreno to go on the kind of goal-scoring spree that leads to a deep postseason run and even more attention.

Redlands Citrus Valley (3-11-5, 3-8-3) lost five of its last seven games and finished minus-20 in goal differential.

Rialto Eisenhower (3-14-1, 2-11-1) were shut out in four of its last five, come into 2015-’16 with a new roster.
