Prep Preview: Grace Brethren vs. Webb

I’m covering the Simi Valley Grace Brethren-Claremont Webb girls CIF-Southern Section Division 7 soccer championship game today, Saturday, March 5, 2016.

The best part of this assignment is it’s the morning game of four to be played today at Corona High School.

Simi Valley Grace Brethren (21-4-0 overall) have won 18 consecutive games coming in, their last loss on Dec. 17, 2015, and have outscored opponents 95–21 this season. It would seem that momentum clearly favors the Lancers, who went 14-0-0 to run away with the Frontier League. Junior midfielder Sammi Fisher leads the team with 35 goals and 21 assists, and sophomore forward Emma Hopkins had added 18 goals and 12 assists. Junior goalkeeper Francesca Allegra — the coaches’ daughter — will likely be in between the pipes today.

WebbLOGOClaremont Webb (19-3-1 overall) have won six in a row — including the last two by shutout — and enter the championship game having allowed just three combined goals during its current streak. The Gauls’ last loss was to Tarbut V’Torah, ending their hopes of winning the San Joaquin League title but setting them up for a longer playoff run than their league rivals. Senior midfielder McKenna Lamb had 11 goals through her first seven games of the season, and junior goalkeeper Kennedy Senise has been stout this postseason.
