Prep Preview: Alta Loma vs. Oxnard

I’m covering the Rancho Cucamonga Alta Loma-Oxnard girls CIF-Southern Section Division 5 soccer championship game today, Saturday, March 5, 2016.

The best part of this assignment is it means one more game at Corona High this season.

AltaLomaLOGOTHE LOW DOWN:
Rancho Cucamonga Alta Loma (18-7-2 overall) has won 14 consecutive games, and is coming off a 3-2 overtime victory over Oxnard Pacifica in the semifinals. The Braves have long been a dominant force on the west end of San Bernardino County, and now have an opportunity to prove there’s quality on side note named Chino Hills. Coach Benjamin Davies relies on senior forwards Brooke Kortekaas and Jessica Cota for leadership.

OxnardLOGOOxnard (21-6-3 overall) backed into the playoffs with a tie to stop a long winning streak, but there’s little doubt about the Yallow Jackets’ potency. The team outscored league opponents 31-3 en route to the Pacific View title, and did so with just one senior on its 20-player roster. Coach Andrew Aguilar has 18 sophomore and juniors on this team and may be primed for finals appearances for seasons to come.

THE PROBABLE STARTING XIs:
Alta Loma
— GK Madilyn Taylor (Soph.); D Alyssa Hargrave (Sr.); D Carmen Rosales (Sr.); D Moriah Collins (Jr.); D Janelle Pimentel (Jr.); MF Victoria Cota (Soph.); MF Caitlyn Sanchez (Jr.); MF Chloe Arredondo (Jr.); F Diana Pineda (Jr.); F Jessica Cota (Sr.); F Brooke Kortekaas (Sr.)

Oxnard — GK Peyton Quintana (Jr.); D Angela Franco (Jr.); D Samantha Molina (Jr.); D Sirena Romero (Jr.); D Eleni Borjon (Jr.); MF Kenya Saucedo (Sr.); MF Paulina Aldrete (Jr.); MF Jennifer Ruiz (Jr.); MF Jacqueline Aldrete (Jr.); F Jazmine Toledo (Jr.); F Ashley Cruz (Jr.)

THE DIFFERENCE:
Alta Loma stopped Oxnard’s league rival in the run-up to this game, so why not take down the Pacific View League’s best back to back?

THE FINAL SCORE:
Rancho Cucamonga Alta Loma 2, Oxnard 0
