Prep Preview: Temecula Valley at Riverside Poly

I’m covering the Temecula Valley-Riverside Poly varsity football game tonight, Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, for The Press-Enterprise and the Southern California Newspaper Group.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Riverside King High School.

BOTH TEAMS…
TEMECULA VALLEY (0-4 overall) has been crushed week after week so far in 2017. Aside from a four-point loss in Week 0, the Golden Bears have not been anywhere near a victory and tonight may be their last best chance this season because the Southwestern League is a well-known meat grinder that looks ready to chew up everyone. Senior QB Nicolas Cutka has replaced Cleveland Ring and Jonah McGranahan and completed just 36 percent of his pass attempts in the last two games, both 30-point losses. The Bears’ running game, averaging just 3.1 yards per attempt, must improve for this team to get any better.
HEAD COACH: Lenny Dykes

RIVERSIDE POLY (0-4 overall) has had a rough season overall. Unable to score or stop opponents from scoring, the Bears are being outscored 167-48 and without a win in the 2017 regular season, and it’s not looking good for Poly going forward (after this game vs. Temecula Valley) in its upcoming Inland Valley League schedule, which starts with against Valley View and Riverside Arlington. Youth is on the Bears’ side, however, with a pair of underclassmen sharing time at quarterback, and juniors Jermain Henderson and Kamdin Karmann getting the bulk of the carries. Keep and eye on massive 6-foot-4, 240-pound junior DE Warren Hardin as he racks up sacks this season.
HEAD COACH: Derek DeWitt
