GAME OF THE WEEK: Temecula Valley at Norte Vista

THE DETAILS:
Temecula Valley vs. Norte Vista
CIF-Southern Section – Week 3
Nonleague
At Riverside (Calif.) Norte Vista High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 13

TEMECULA VALLEY (3-0 overall, 0-0 Southwestern League) has embraced the second season of the Esposito Era, jumping out to a stunning start and looking like early contenders for a playoff spot in CIF-SS Division 7. With the talent the Golden Bears have it’s little wonder they’re at least this good, and a couple of wins over tough nonleague opponents will set the stage for bigger wins down the line. Senior QB Zach Cutka hasn’t had the hottest of results, but is doing an even job of distributing the ball around. Senior RBs Logan Moreno and Brody Hughes are sharing the load in the running game, and it’s been working.
HEAD COACH: Bert Esposito
ROSTER – QB: Zach Cutka, Sr. (6-foot, 175 pounds); RB: Logan Moreno, Sr. (5-8, 160); RB: Brody Hughes, Sr. (6-1, 190); WR: Brock Yingling, Jr. (6-1, 190); TE: Josh Hilton, Sr. (6-4, 245); OL: Christian Perry, Sr. (6-7, 320); DE: Jay Max Jacobsen, Sr. (6-5, 240); OLB: Anson Pulsipher, Sr. (6-1, 210); DB: Amir Alamin, Sr. (5-11, 170); K: Aubree Gessel, Sr., (5-2, 110)

NORTE VISTA (3-0 overall, 0-0 Inland Valley League) used a stout defensive effort to get a win in Week 2, but ansolutely will need more offensive production to get a win in Week 3. Sophomore RB Eddie Allain netted a couple of short touchdown runs but it doesn’t tell the story of more than a dozen runs of 2 yards or less. Without their workhorse back to lean on, the Braves tried to mix it up and littler options like Jesus Gonzalez and Jessie Carvajal were likewise pummeled. Their OL had a tough night against an aggressive front eight, and they’ll have to adjust to that going forward.
HEAD COACH: Ken Batdorf
ROSTER – QB: Daniel Gonzales, Sr. (5-foot-10, 185 pounds); RB: Eddie Allain, Soph. (5-10, 175); RB: Jessie Carvajal, Soph. (5-7, 180); RB: Jesus Gonzalez, Jr. (5-10, 190); TE: Emmanuel Rubio, Sr. (6-2, 210); OL: Adan Rodriguez, Jr. (6-2, 290); DT: Dustin Jamison, Sr. (6-1, 190); LB: Christian Jurado, Jr. (5-7, 160); DB: Josef Luckey, Sr. (5-11, 175); K: Fernando Salcedo, Sr. (5-7, 160)

THE DIFFERENCE:
Temecula Valley has some serious size on both sides of the ball, and a two-way player in Anson Pulsipher who can steal the show.

THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Temecula Valley 20, Norte Vista 16
