GAME OF THE WEEK: Riverside North at Grand Terrace

THE DETAILS:
Riverside North vs. Grand Terrace
CIF-Southern Section – Week 0
At Grand Terrace (Calif.) High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 20
RIVERSIDE NORTH (0-0 overall, 0-0 Sunbelt League) is at its best when it finds a way get its superior athletes the ball. The Huskies rarely have a shortage of talent so it’ll be interesting to see how it’s deployed in this first game. Look for senior QB Jaidyn Gamble to get settled into the offense and connect with senior WR Ashar Granger, and for senior RB Venasio Mikaele to run over a few defenders on his way to the end zone.
HEAD COACH: Opalani Viapulu
ROSTER – QB: Jaidyn Gamble, Sr. (6-foot, 185 pounds); RB/FB: Venasio Mikaele, Sr. (5-8, 200); RB/OLB: Ashon Elliott, Sr. (5-8, 170); WR/FS Ashar Granger, Sr. (6-3, 175); WR/DB: Adrian Williams, Sr. (6-2, 195); OL: Arthur Marquez, Sr. (6-2, 305); DL: Christian Wilson, Jr. (6-5, 285); DB: Tyson Payne, Sr. (6-3, 190); K: Fernando Zavala, Sr. (5-8, 150)
GRAND TERRACE (0-0 overall, 0-0 San Andreas League) has a new coach but a bunch of the same problems. Justin Randall, the former Rialto Carter coach, took over with the Titans early in the pandemic and has a lot of work to do with a young quarterback and a young roster. Unfortunately, COVID protocols have limited the team’s practice time lately and will effect player availability tonight.
HEAD COACH: Justin Randall
ROSTER – QB: Jayson Stewart, Soph. (6-foot-1, 185 pounds); RB/WR/CB: Exzavior Oliver, Fr. (5-8, 150); WR/SS: Elijah Appleton, Jr. (5-8, 155); DE: Kenneth Crews, Fr. (5-10, 202); MLB: Gilbert Villareal, Soph. (5-7, 180); CB/WR: Steven Perez, Sr. (5-9, 145); K: Carson Lazette, Sr. (5-10, 155)
THE DIFFERENCE:
There’s a wide talent margin between these two programs. We’ll be watching what Randall achieves at Grand Terrace over the next few seasons, but Game No. 1 will largely be one to forget for the Titans.
THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Riverside North 44, Grand Terrace 13
