CLOSER LOOK: Rialto’s Antoine Fowler

Take a closer look at Rialto junior Antoine Fowler and you’ll see a young man wearing his heart of his sleeve.

Fowler had 19 carries for 214 yards and two touchdowns as the Knights (8-6 overall) outran Indian Springs, 56-38, on Friday, Nov. 19, in a CIF-Southern Section Division 14 semifinal game.

The 6-foot, 160-pound tailback had seven runs of 10-or-more yards, and finished off his night with a 45-yard touchdown run to push the Knights to the first CIF-SS championship game in the program’s history.

Fowler has 1,721 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns this season, placing him just outside the Top 10 in CIF-SS in both categories.

We caught up with Fowler after the win over Indian Springs. He was ready to talk.

InlandFieldhouse.com: What’s if feel like to win a semifinal?
Antoine Fowler: “It feels good. This feels great man.”

IF: With the lead late in the game how did you and your teammates handle the 18-minute delay after the lights went out?
AF: “I didn’t like that because we got cocky. The delay meant we can still lose this game at the end of the day. The time that they had, they still had time to come back if they wanted to and tried hard enough, they could’ve got us, because we got cocky. So I had to talk to my teammates because I didn’t like that.”

IF: How has this team weathered all the ups-and-downs of the season?
AF: “This is probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me. My grandma passed like a month ago, and I’ve been playing this, this is what’s been keeping my mind right. I’ve got my grandma. She’s still with me on the field. It sucks ’cause my birthday is coming up and she’s not going to be able to be here with me, and she’s not going to be able to watch my games. But she’s here with me, she’s here with my in my mind.”
