Prep Preview: Webb at Grand Terrace

I’m covering the Claremont Webb-Grand Terrace girls CIF Southern California Regional Division 5 Semifinal Round playoff game today, Thursday, March 10, 2016. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. PT.

The best part of this assignment is that it’s an all-Inland Area semifinal.

WebbLOGOTHE LOW DOWN:
Claremont Webb (20-4-1 overall) got beat up by Simi Valley Grace Brethren, 4-1, in the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 championship game, but bounced back to beat Wilmington Harbor Teacher, 10-9 in PKs after playing to a 3-3 regulation tie, on Tuesday in Round 1 of the SoCal Regional playoffs. The Gauls, stewarded by coach Cle Kooiman, are making their first appearance at this level. They have loads of spirit, are playing with house money and have nothing to lose. This makes them potentially dangerous.

GrandTerraceLOGO1Grand Terrace (18-9-3 overall) was gifted the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 title after Bloomington self reported an ineligible player, so the Titans got the trophy then opened up SoCal Regional tourney play with a 5-1 victory over Escondido Orange Glen on Tuesday. Coach Ryan Pacheco has a talented roster, no doubt, but it’s sort of crazy to think that his team now has a crystal clear a path to a state title.

THE PROBABLE STARTING XIs:
Claremont Webb
— GK Kennedy Senise (Jr.); D Katherine Stewart (Jr.); D Alexis Wilson (Jr.); MF Amelia Barbee (Sr.); MF Dahlia Gonzalez (Jr.); MF Nina Kidd (Jr.); MF Autumn Armstrong (Jr.); MF/F McKenna Lamb (Sr.); F Briana Garabet (Jr.); F Dylan Wensley (Jr.); F Akua McLeod (Sr.)

Grand Terrace — GK Jordan Wells (Jr.); D Dani Perez (Sr.); D Taylor Curtis (Sr.); D Amber Sweeney (Jr.); MF/D Anna Fazzino (Sr.); MF Steph Doran (Sr.); MF Celine Montana (Sr.); MF/F Mikaela Millican (Sr.); MF/F Moira O’Neill (Sr.) MF/F Evelyn Findlay (Sr.0; F Skylar Cleveland (Sr.)

THE DIFFERENCE:
Grand Terrace’s attacking talent should find joy — and goals — against Webb’s meager defenses.

THE FINAL SCORE:
Grand Terrace 3, Claremont Webb 0
