GAME OF THE WEEK: Grand Terrace vs. Santiago

THE DETAILS:
Grand Terrace vs. Santiago
CIF-Southern Section – Week 3
Nonleague
At Corona (Calif.) Santiago HS
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 7

GRAND TERRACE (2-1 overall, 0-0 Sunkist League) began the season with a good-looking 21-0 road victory over Riverside North, but dropped their home opener to Yucaipa, 34-13, before doubling up on Hillcrest in a 28-14 win last week. The Titans will look to get off the roller-coast on the winning side, and their defense will have to lead the way. Senior QB Mekhi Lewis is a game-changer if he can get enough time and space to operate. The pieces around him are the tricky part. Will either 6-foot-1 senior receiver step to the fore? Is there a 5-foot-9 running back who can meet the demands of a Big VIII League defense?
HEAD COACH: Ryan Smalls
ROSTER – QB: Mejhi Lewis, Jr. (6-foot-1, 190 pounds); RB: Justin Robles, Sr. (5-9, 190); David Morales, Sr. (5-9, 160); WR: Damion Williams, Sr. (6-1, 170); Elderick Weaver, Sr. (6-1, 170); OL: Joe Moreno, Sr. (5-9, 240); DL: Jeremy Barron-Ohiaeri, Sr. (6-2, 240); MLB: Aaron Torres, Sr. (6-1, 235); CB: Elijah Garcia, Sr. (5-7, 170); K: Anthony Valencia, Sr. (5-10, 160)

SANTIAGO (1-2 overall, 0-0 Big VIII) and it big Week 0 victory over Murrieta Valley has long since been forgotten in the wake on back-to-back losses and the inconsistent play of senior QB Nate Castillo, who continues to throw INTs at an alarming rate and now has six on the season. The Sharks are best when they’re balanced but the running game didn’t offer much in the 21-10 loss to Chula Vista Eastlake last week, averaging 4.0 yards per rush as the offense looked to re-integrate RB Vincent Pacleb into the rotation a week after Garrett McMurtry preformed so well in the Week 1 loss to Rancho Verde. It’s a tandem that could work if, again, the balance is right.
HEAD COACH: Scott Morrison
ROSTER – QB: Nate Castillo, Sr. (5-foot-10, 205 pounds); RB: Garrett McMurtry, Sr. (6-foot, 185); Vincent Pacleb, Sr. (5-6, 160); WR: Tate Giles, Sr. (6-4, 190); Jaron Gargalis, Sr. (5-9, 170); Jackson Kurtz, Jr. (5-10, 175); OL: Thomas Tuff, Sr. (6-4, 260); DL: Nicolas Bisogno, Sr. (6-2, 300); LB: Blake Siemsen, Sr. (5-10, 190); SS: Phillip Le, Sr. (5-10, 185); K: Angelo Bayo, Sr. (5-5, 143)

THE DIFFERENCE:
Speed. Santiago is fast and plays fast. If the Sharks can keep up a quick tempo they’ll swim away with a victory.

THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Santiago 32, Grand Terrace 17
