WEEK 0 RECAP: Norco Shows Claws In Scrappy Opener
NORCO – What impressed us most about the Roosevelt-Norco varsity football game on Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, was the amount of fight both teams had on Opening Night.
Neither team displayed much discipline from the start; just penalty after penalty, and more personal fouls than anything else. Stuff after the whistle, too. The referees did a remarkable job of showing restraint and keeping a few moments from escalating, but the teams were clearly in the mood to fight their neighbor. They probably should’ve just got it over with, so the LATE-late hit on Roosevelt QB Charlie Bohmer and the ensuing melee would’ve been unnecessary.
Aaron Crone: “It’s just your Game 1 stuff. That’s what that is and I’ll leave it at that. We’ll watch film. We have a deal on what we do with our penalties and stuff like that and how to get better from it, and we’ll do a good job of watching film with them and coach them up. Re: QB Charlie Bohmer: Man, the kids in the ultimate competitor. Coming from Linfield (Christian) to here is a big stage and I think he performed great. He improvises in the pocket, makes a lot of great plays and I’m super proud of that kid. I’m very, very excited to continue to work and build with him. We tend to set that up (out-of-the-pocket throws) but a lot of that, he’s just a gamer and he’s out there and he’s improvising that on his own. Re: harnessing last year’s playoff experience: We’re excited to build off that. We were young last year and we’re still young. We played a lot of freshmen last year, so we have a lot of sophomores. We have really good senior class leadership so I’m excited to see for the next nine game after this. We’re going to get better from this and continue to build.”
Dan Barlage: “It’s frustrating and it’s just first game so I can’t get too wrapped up in it. I just have to move on. I can talk to myself all night but then then it’s like, ‘now just go fix it,’ but the guys were so wound up to get this one. Re: the running game: I thought all three guys did a pretty good job. They all kind of broke for big games and we were just trying to manage a little bit. Lee White might have had more than 100 yards rushing. We’re dynamic. Like, what are you going to take away? Oh, you want us to stay out of the box? We’ll just hammer the box till you want to come in the box and now you gotta play Wong 1-on-1 or one of the other guys. On TE: Tegan Ogas: He is a big-time target, and I think a lot of teams are sleeping on him because he hasn’t hit puberty. If he was 230 he’d have every offer in the world but he’s 210.”
